Why the name Hypatia?
When the company was established in 1995 we thought that Hypatia was one of the first female librarians, later we discovered that this was not the fact. However Hypatia did annotate philosophical and mathematical books in the library of Alexandria before here life ended rather dramatically. The company was established in 1995 providing services and training in SGML and later XML. Understanding the importance of semantic information and how a good semantic description of information could lead to new services, and to new and more powerful searches. Since we had background in the semantic rich SGML providing services moving to the a web using HTML was an easy move.
We have been working with web and web related technologies since the beginning, when it was named Gopher.
